Ocean Stewardship at Un Mar de Colores connects coastal cleanup action with deeper environmental justice education. Monthly cleanups run across Oceanside, Imperial Beach, Cardiff, and partner sites, with each event combining hands-on debris removal with short teaching moments about the watershed-to-ocean pipeline, the plastic pollution crisis, and California coastal policy. Our Ocean Stewardship program is free and family-friendly, and we specifically prioritize recruitment from BIPOC communities whose relationships with the coast have historically been gated by cost or culture. Every participant contributes to our citizen science database tracking pollution patterns across San Diego County.
Este hub conecta a familias del condado de San Diego con cuidado del océano en 27 ciudades. Cada enlace de ciudad abajo es una página completa con contexto local, playas, socios escolares y cómo inscribirse — no una puerta vacía.
Quizás sientes esto
- —Plastic pollution education at school is a poster — your child wants hands-on citizen science tied to real beaches.
- —One-off Earth Day events don't build continuity — you want monthly action with the same community.
- —Paid 'conservation experiences' charge families to volunteer — the logic feels backwards for San Diego County working households.
- —You want your kids learning California coastal commission basics — not just 'reduce, reuse, recycle' slogans.
Lo que cambia cuando los jóvenes entran al agua
- Free means free — no registration fees, no gear purchases, no eco-tourism upsells.

- Watershed-to-ocean connection modules — especially Tijuana River cross-border case study relevant to San Diego County.
- Certificate of community service for students — documented hours for partner Title I school districts across San Diego County requirements.
