Un Mar de Colores ofrece surf camp gratuitas para jóvenes de La Jolla de 6–17 años, directamente en la costa de La Jolla. La Jolla Shores has the gentlest beginner waves in San Diego County — a gradual sandbar bottom, 500 yards of lifeguarded beach, and consistent waist-high surf. Our cohorts come from San Diego Unified's Muirlands Middle, Kate Sessions Elementary, and Mission Bay High, with curriculum support from the Scripps Institution of Oceanography. Windansea serves only our advanced Surf Athletic Scholarship athletes.
Parents ask if surf camp in La Jolla requires swimming ability. We build water comfort progressively in supervised zones — many beginners start with limited pool experience and gain confidence within the first two camp days.

When we say free for La Jolla youth, we mean wetsuits, soft-tops, rashguards, sunscreen, transportation, and instruction — the full stack commercial programs charge $50–$150 per session for.

Windansea is one of California's most historic surf spots, famously chronicled in Tom Wolfe's 'The Pump House Gang.' The iconic palm-frond shack dates to the 1940s.

Our summer surf camps run Monday through Friday across North County and San Diego, serving BIPOC youth ages 6–17. Each one-week cohort combines four mornings of in-water surf instruction with afternoon programming in marine ecology, Kumeyaay coastal history, and cultural arts. Camps are capped at 18 students per cohort to maintain a 4:1 student-to-instructor ratio, and every camp ends with a Friday family showcase on the beach. Camps are entirely free — wetsuits, boards, transportation, daily lunch, and all materials included.
Since 2018, Un Mar de Colores has served thousands of youth across San Diego County and the Cali-Baja region — with funding from the San Diego Foundation, community grants, and individual donors keeping every program 100% free.

Summer camps run June through August with Monday–Friday cohorts. Cohorts fill 3–4 weeks ahead — contact us early if you're enrolling from La Jolla for a specific week. Priority goes to Title I referrals and partner org introductions.
We serve youth ages 6–17 with age-appropriate cohort groupings. Camps cap at 18 students per week with a 4:1 student-to-instructor ratio. Enrollment runs through San Diego Unified School District partners and community referrals in La Jolla.
Yes — all programming is bilingual. In La Jolla, where 22% of households are Spanish-speaking, bilingual coaches lead every session and parent communications arrive in both English and Spanish.
