Quizás sientes esto

  • You want environmental education with the sport — not a photo-op surf day that ignores watershed and pollution realities.
  • Neighbors talk about La Jolla or Oceanside breaks like they're clubs with unwritten membership rules.
  • Your child tried a one-off beach day once. Without consistent instruction, they left feeling more excluded than inspired.

Lo que cambia cuando los jóvenes entran al agua

  • Trauma-informed culture welcomes youth navigating stress, grief, or instability — the ocean as healing space.
  • Small cohort sizes keep instructor attention high and anxiety low for first-timers.
  • Students progress from whitewater to unbroken waves at their pace — no humiliation, no sink-or-swim culture.

Por qué operamos este programa en Del Mar

Del Mar's 2.5-mile coastline produces some of the cleanest water and most consistent small waves in the region, protected by the San Dieguito River mouth eddies. Our 15th Street Beach lessons sit in front of Powerhouse Park, which doubles as our outdoor classroom. We partner with Del Mar Union's Del Mar Heights and Ashley Falls Elementary — serving primarily inland Del Mar Mesa and Carmel Valley neighborhoods.

Parents searching for youth surf lessons in Del Mar, CA often find Yelp lists dominated by for-profit schools. Un Mar is different: a 501(c)(3) BIPOC-led nonprofit where enrollment prioritizes Title I students and referrals from Del Mar Union School District counselors. That structure changes who gets in the water.

Por qué Del Mar importa para nuestra misión

The ocean off Del Mar belongs to everyone. Un Mar de Colores exists because San Diego has spent decades telling BIPOC youth otherwise — and we're changing that story one cohort at a time.

Del Mar families deserve instructors who look like their kids and speak their language. With 20% BIPOC residents, bilingual coaching isn't a nice-to-have — it's how we earn trust on day one.
