  • Bilingual support matters in your home, but most Poway-area surf programs default to English-only instruction.
  • You volunteer time you don't have just to get your kid a shot at an activity that should be a public good.
  • Your student comes home talking about the ocean in science class but has never felt salt water on their skin.

Lo que cambia cuando los jóvenes entran al agua

  • Community showcases celebrate progress — families see their kids recognized on the sand.
  • Parents see measurable growth — water comfort, confidence, community — not just a single photo day.
  • Small cohort sizes keep instructor attention high and anxiety low for first-timers.

Surf Lessons en Poway — Lo que debes saber

Surf lessons near Poway for teens and younger kids run through school-year and summer cohorts. Inland families rely on our shuttles (14 miles inland) so distance never becomes the reason a student quits.

Volunteer-trained vs certified-coach surf lessons make a safety difference. Un Mar requires CPR, First Aid, and lifeguard division coordination — non-negotiable for youth programming in open ocean.

Por qué Poway importa para nuestra misión

From Poway's Title I schools to the sand, our pipeline is built on real partnerships — not generic 'serving the area' language. Every cohort names the schools, beaches, and community orgs involved.

Poway's Spanish-speaking households (17%) get parent communications in both languages, every time. Coastal access fails when language is treated as an afterthought.

Currículo del programa

Un Mar de Colores offers free surf lessons year-round for youth ages 6–17 across Oceanside, Carlsbad, Encinitas, Cardiff, Del Mar, La Jolla, Pacific Beach, and partner cities. Our coaches are certified by the San Diego Fire-Rescue Lifeguard Division and many are graduates of our own Surf Athletic Scholarship program. Lessons prioritize water-safety fundamentals first: students start in chest-deep whitewater under direct instructor supervision and progress to unbroken waves only after demonstrating paddle control and ocean awareness. Every session is fully equipped — wetsuit, board, rashguard — and transportation is provided from our partner Title I schools across San Diego County.

  • Paddle technique and wave selection

  • Whitewater to unbroken wave progression
