Un Mar de Colores ofrece surf camp gratuitas para jóvenes de Del Mar de 6–17 años, directamente en la costa de Del Mar. Sirviendo a una comunidad del 20% BIPOC (4,161 residentes), nuestra instrucción se lleva a cabo en 15th Street Beach, con entrenadores bilingües certificados y todo el equipo proporcionado. Del Mar's 2.5-mile coastline produces some of the cleanest water and most consistent small waves in the region, protected by the San Dieguito River mouth eddies. Our 15th Street Beach lessons sit in front of Powerhouse Park, which doubles as our outdoor classroom. We partner with Del Mar Union's Del Mar Heights and Ashley Falls Elementary — serving primarily inland Del Mar Mesa and Carmel Valley neighborhoods.
Parents ask if surf camp in Del Mar requires swimming ability. We build water comfort progressively in supervised zones — many beginners start with limited pool experience and gain confidence within the first two camp days.
Marine ecology at camp answers why Del Mar beaches close after storms or sewage events — students learn watershed-to-ocean pipelines, especially relevant near cross-border river systems like the Tijuana River.
With 4,161 residents, Del Mar is one of the communities where a single free surf cohort can change dozens of lives per season. Our shuttles and school partnerships make distance (on the coast) a logistics problem we solve, not a barrier families carry alone.
Del Mar's Spanish-speaking households (8%) get parent communications in both languages, every time. Coastal access fails when language is treated as an afterthought.

15th Street sits in the heart of Del Mar Village, adjacent to Powerhouse Park, the historic 1928 beach concession building that gives the park its name.

Our summer surf camps run Monday through Friday across North County and San Diego, serving BIPOC youth ages 6–17. Each one-week cohort combines four mornings of in-water surf instruction with afternoon programming in marine ecology, Kumeyaay coastal history, and cultural arts. Camps are capped at 18 students per cohort to maintain a 4:1 student-to-instructor ratio, and every camp ends with a Friday family showcase on the beach. Camps are entirely free — wetsuits, boards, transportation, daily lunch, and all materials included.
Un Mar de Colores is a BIPOC-led 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in Oceanside, California in 2018. Our instructors are certified by the San Diego Fire-Rescue Lifeguard Division and hold CPR + First Aid credentials.

Summer camps run June through August with Monday–Friday cohorts. Cohorts fill 3–4 weeks ahead — contact us early if you're enrolling from Del Mar for a specific week. Priority goes to Title I referrals and partner org introductions.
Yes — all programming is bilingual. In Del Mar, where 8% of households are Spanish-speaking, bilingual coaches lead every session and parent communications arrive in both English and Spanish.
Each cohort caps at 18 students with a 4:1 student-to-instructor ratio. Small cohorts keep nervous first-timers from Del Mar from getting lost in overcrowded lineups — every child gets coached attention daily.
