Un Mar de Colores ofrece cultural arts & storytelling gratuitas para jóvenes de Del Mar de All ages años, directamente en la costa de Del Mar. Sirviendo a una comunidad del 20% BIPOC (4,161 residentes), nuestra instrucción se lleva a cabo en 15th Street Beach, con entrenadores bilingües certificados y todo el equipo proporcionado. Del Mar's 2.5-mile coastline produces some of the cleanest water and most consistent small waves in the region, protected by the San Dieguito River mouth eddies. Our 15th Street Beach lessons sit in front of Powerhouse Park, which doubles as our outdoor classroom. We partner with Del Mar Union's Del Mar Heights and Ashley Falls Elementary — serving primarily inland Del Mar Mesa and Carmel Valley neighborhoods.
All ages cultural arts welcome grandparents and young children from Del Mar — intergenerational oral tradition sessions preserve family coastal memory.
Cultural arts integration with watershed education connects Tijuana River stories to visual art — Del Mar students paint, film, and perform environmental justice.
Del Mar sits inside San Diego County's coastal equity gap — 20% of residents identify as BIPOC, yet beach access has historically been gated by cost, transportation, and culture. Un Mar de Colores closes that gap with free programming and school-based recruitment.
Safe, lifeguard-coordinated instruction is non-negotiable for Del Mar youth. Every water session runs inside flagged zones with certified coaches — parents shouldn't have to choose between access and safety.

15th Street sits in the heart of Del Mar Village, adjacent to Powerhouse Park, the historic 1928 beach concession building that gives the park its name.

Cultural Arts & Storytelling at Un Mar de Colores is where the surf, the coast, and community narrative meet. Quarterly workshops and summer artist residencies bring together youth, professional artists, and Kumeyaay elders to create work that reflects the living cultural traditions of the California coast. Programs center Indigenous, Latino, and Chicano voices historically marginalized in coastal culture, and every workshop ends with a public exhibition, publication, or film screening that returns the art to the community that made it.

Coastal storytelling and oral tradition, Kumeyaay history and living culture, Latino and Chicano surf culture history, visual arts (painting, mural, photography), poetry and spoken word, and film and documentary-making. Del Mar cohorts rotate through forms across quarterly workshops.
Yes — every workshop cycle aims toward public exhibition, publication, or film screening. Un Mar partners with local galleries and museums to return Del Mar youth art to the community — not sell it to tourists.
Yes — 100% free. All art supplies, guest-artist instruction, bilingual materials, and exhibition opportunities are included. Commercial youth art classes in San Diego County often charge $30–$80 per session. Del Mar families pay nothing.
