A quality surfboard costs $500 or more. A wetsuit runs $200+. Add coaching fees, competition entry, and transportation — and surfing becomes a sport that prices out the families who live closest to the beach.

Our surf scholarships cover boards, wetsuits, leashes, professional coaching, mentorship, and competition support. BIPOC youth get the same access as any kid with a trust fund and a garage full of boards — because the ocean doesn't check your bank account.

A surf scholarship covers everything a young surfer needs — a surfboard, wetsuit, professional coaching, mentorship, and community support — at absolutely no cost to the family. It’s designed to remove the financial barriers that keep BIPOC youth out of the water.
Surf scholarships are open to BIPOC youth in the Oceanside and greater San Diego area. We prioritize families who face financial barriers to ocean access. No prior surf experience is required — just a willingness to learn.
Recipients receive a surfboard, wetsuit, leash, and all necessary equipment. They also get year-round access to certified bilingual coaching, peer mentorship, competition preparation, and leadership development opportunities.
